Breaking Ground
🍌🤷♀️ Banana trees are technically herbs (yes, herbs!), tomatoes are technically berries, and cilantro is known as coriander everywhere else in the world.
🤔 Fun fact: If you’re confused by plant definitions, you’re in good company — most plants don’t know what they’re doing either.
🌻☢️ Did you know sunflowers are so efficient at absorbing toxins that they were planted near Chernobyl to help clean up radioactive soil? Suddenly, your backyard garden seems a little less intimidating…

Sunflowers are used to absorb radiation… but they will become radioactive after, taking one for the team.
Root of the Matter
Myth: Adding sugar to your soil makes flowers smell sweeter.
Truth: Unless your soil has a sweet tooth, sugar isn’t doing much except giving ants a new hangout spot. 🐜🐜🐜
Flowers smell great because of nature, not your baking pantry. Save the sugar for cookies — your flowery friends will survive without the calories.

Cut out sugar from their diet for your flowers to stay nice and trim!
Don’t Be a Prick
This week’s prickly hero: the MASSIVE cardón cactus estimated to be 300 - 500 years old! Found near Guadalajara, Mexico, this desert native has been captivating visitors for possibly longer than the Constitution. Imagine that!

Amazing cactus estimated to be around 300 - 500 years old in Mexico.
Dirtbags Anonymous
This issue’s Dirtbag confesses to a crime against their leafy dependents:
"I secretly buy plants to replace the ones I’ve killed and act like they never died. My partner thinks we’ve had the same pothos for five years. In reality, we’re on pothos number four. At this rate, I might have to start naming them ‘Pothos, the Sixth’—royal lineage and all."
Ah yes, the classic pothos swap—because sometimes, 'thriving for five years' means six plants and a good poker face.
Got a confession of your own? No judgment (okay, maybe a little) — send it our way, and we’ll make sure no one knows about that “accidental” overwatering incident. 😏
